2015 Quantum® Controller Manual

Most Dryer Stoppages Can Be Resolved

Dealer service is available for your Dryer. Good service is a trademark of Brock Grain Systems. However, by developing a good understanding of the equipment and how it functions, Operators or their local electricians and gas servicemen can resolve most Dryer stoppages themselves. The most critical part of correcting an apparent malfunction is identifying and systematically isolating the problem. The annunciator light system and Dryer Log feature of the QUANTUM® Controller greatly simplifies this task. We hope this Troubleshooting checklist will aid in solving service problems and help you get your Dryer back in operation quickly.

During initial startup and at the beginning of each season, follow the steps in your Dryer Owner/Operator Manual for proper operation. Parts should be replaced or repaired if necessary.

Your Dryer Problem May Require Qualified Service Personnel

IMPORTANT! All electrical testing must be done by a QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN, in accordance with all applicable national, state and local electrical SAFETY codes. Brock Grain Systems neither will be liable for damage to the Dryer or to person(s) because of unqualified electrical testing or use. Improper testing or use will void the Warranty.

Electrical Checkout Procedures

To Test for Voltage

Use a 115-volt voltmeter for determining if 115-volt (115V) components are receiving adequate power. The Troubleshooting section in this manual instructs you to test voltage between two points. Example: “Check for 115V at 7-1”. To check, find two terminals or wires marked 7 and 1; place one of the voltmeter probes on 7 and the other on 1. If power is available, the meter’s scale should read approximately 115. Note: Do not turn power “OFF” before checking for voltage, as relay contacts may be switched; check the circuit as it was when the malfunction was discovered, if possible. The alarm system may be silenced by pressing the ALARM SILENCE Button on the inner door of the Control Panel.

To Test for Continuity

Continuity between two points in a circuit can be checked with a continuity test light. Since the instrument has its own power supply, it is necessary for the Dryer’s control circuit power to be turned OFF before testing (otherwise instrument may be damaged). Example: “Check continuity from 1 to 4.” To check, turn power off and place the test leads on 1 and 4.  A closed circuit will light up the tester.

To Test Circuit Breakers

A tripped line voltage circuit breaker on a SUPERB® Dryer will he indicated by an operating handle position midway between the OFF and ON positions. Some breakers have a red flag which appears below the handle when tripped. To reset a tripped breaker, first turn to OFF to re-latch the trip mechanism. Circuit breakers for the control circuit are a pop-out button- type which must be reset by pushing the button back into the case.
